Compression garments are available in various counter-pressure therapy. This will vary according to the medical diagnosis provided by the health care professional.
For a variety of conditions, some patient may require custom-made compression garments.
Graduated compression garments provide a “squeezing” to the affected limb or limbs by providing greater compression at the most extreme part of the limb (i.e. at the ankle for legs) and gradually less to the upper part of the limb.
The presence of a compression garment worn correctly, will reduce the size of the limb by reducing accumulation of fluid in the form of blood pooling and or swelling.
There are a variety of ready-to-wear compression garments: below-knee, thigh-high, waist-high, sleeves, gauntlets or gloves, surgical vests, post-surgery and diabetic.
Custom compression garments available only when prescribed, vary more than ready-to-wear garments offering unlimited options according to the treatment for the condition and the patient’s requirements . Ideally, measurements for compression garments are best taken early in the day before excessive swelling occurs.
Daily wear of compression garments from early morning to evening or bedtime will help reduce and control the symptoms associated with the condition.
