Range of Motion

Orthomedix-9-Oct-2009-082A

The objective of any stretching therapy is to restore functioning range of motion to a joint without compromising the stability and quality of the connective tissue and joint. LPS is the most effective technique that works within the physiological limits of dense connective tissue. By synthesizing new tissue to its permanent elongated state, LPS is able to remodel and reorient the collagen in dense connective tissue and cause the adaptive lengthening of muscle. CPM (Continuous Passive Motion) Rental. Continuous passive motion devices will help a patient regain range of motion to a joint after suffering a trauma or surgery.

What CPM does:

Passive range of motion means that the joint is moved without the patient’s muscles being used. Continuous passive motion devices are used after surgery, both in the hospital and in the home.
The motorized CPM device gradually moves the affected joint through a prescribed arc of motion for an extended period of time.

OrthoMedix provides rental services of continuous passive motion units for post-surgery use, recovery from an injury or after immobilization to regain range of motion in the affected joint.  The patient or caregiver is given instruction on how to set up the device.  Through controlled continuous motion, the affected joint will regain range of motion.  Range motion is gradually increased to the maximize the outcome for the patient.  Prescribed use is normally 4 to 6 hours per day with recommended use of 1 hour minimum per use.  CPMs are usually prescribed by an orthopaedic surgeon or a physical therapist.  Duration is determined by the prescriber.  A CPM unit is not a replacement for exercises recommended by a surgeon or therapist; both are used together to regain strength and range of motion.
